Michelle Bachmann Slams First Lady for Supporting Breastfeeding Tax Cut

In her latest attempt at pretending to have a brain, Michelle Bachmann (pictured center), of "the founding fathers eradicated slavery" infamy, has declared that First Lady Michelle Obama's quest of turning the United States into a "nanny state" is complete.

Why?

Because Mrs. Obama recommended that Mothers breast feed their babies and she supports the IRS incentive that reclassifies breast pumps as medical care purchases that could be deducted as medical expenses.
"I've given birth to five babies, and I breast fed every single one of these babies," said Bachmann to fellow conservative mouthpiece Laura Ingraham. "To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump for my babies. You wanna talk about the nanny state? I think we just got the new definition of a nanny."

While voicing her support of breastfeeding on "Good Morning America," Bachmann argued the "tax code is used by government as social engineering."

I'm assuming the "social engineering" the Minnesota congresswoman is opposed to is ensuring that children born to low-income families have the opportunity to experience nature's milk while their mothers are forced to return to work before their cesarean scars heal to make ends meet.

Kristina Schake, Obama's communication's director, said:

"Breast feeding is a very personal choice for every woman. We are trying to make it easier for those who choose to do it."

And Republicans went wild!

Accusations of governmental overreach and medical bureaucracy are running rampant because our First Lady supports healthier children. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program offers breast pumps for free or discounted prices, but not every woman qualifies for this assistance.

Meanwhile, the benefits of breast feeding are extensive.

From healthier infant weight gain to reduced breast cancer risk for Mothers, the question should not be why is the IRS attempting to reclassify pumps as a medical expense, but what took them so long?

I continue to find it baffling that a party that attempts to redefine rape and cut social services, including the ending of unemployment benefits, pounces on every opportunity to oppose incentives for lower-income families to actually carry pregnancies full-term.

Isn't this what you want, GOP? Strong, healthy, children?

Or is that only the goal as long as the government doesn't include actually caring about these children after they're born?

Just because it's being supported by an African-American woman from the South Side of Chicago, whose husband ruined your political dreams of world domination, doesn't make this measure any less admirable.

Pretend Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan supports the incentive if it makes you sleep better at night, but for the love of all that's sacred, stop with the hypocritical, self-righteous indignation.

Mrs. Obama has recalled how she breast fed now-9-year-old Sasha, and I've successfully nursed my two children. While I would never judge any woman who chooses to use formula, I wholeheartedly support the government's incentive during this vital stage of infant development, and if Bachmann is any kind of woman or Mother, she should as well.

To paraphrase Barney Frank, it is becoming blatantly obvious that "the modern Republicans believe that life begins at conception and ends at birth."

If the GOP is not against using a political platform to ensure that children don't "die," it's only right that they put equal effort in to ensuring they have every opportunity to live.
